This morning when I set out to take the kids to school, I was on a mission to photograph a beautiful golden field I have seen a few times over the past few weeks and I did but on the way back Harper and I took an alternate route and stumbled upon something even better: a priceless relic from the past.
Maybe 50 years ago it was a staple of most small towns in America but as many old relics from the past and many present day small towns, it is near extinction but still hanging by a thread. As we entered through the door we were transported to different era ,greeted by an warm hello and the color of black and white checks, red vinyl, chrome and wood grain. If I could have found a calendar I am sure the year would have been 1953 . As we took a seat at the counter and place our order, 2 milkshakes with cherries on top, it was pure happiness for me to see the excitement and happiness in Harper. Nothing was wrong with the world at this moment. . It was timeless...it was perfect. Something can't buy at any big supercenter.

After we enjoyed our milkshakes we walked the downtown area. The sidewalks, newly bricked, ran between the old, empty and some dilapidated buildings that were just wanting and waiting for someone to revive them. In my mind I can see how it once was. A busy small down where all the local business was done. Everyone knew everybody and always had a kind "Hello, how are you?". Where everyday at the same time you could find the same old man setting on the same old bench. In reality there were only a handful of business located here and we did greet and get greeted by the few patrons visiting a local business as well as stop and talk with a local artist painting murals on the exteriors of the old downtown buildings depicting how it "used to be".
Although it is faint, this little town still has a heartbeat.
