It seems that the canning and preserving season is upon us. If you grew up in the South, as I did, you more than likely know how to do it all....or watched your momma or maw-maw enough to think you know how to do it all. I usually can tomatoes and greenbeans, preserve figs and freeze peas (the pink-eyed-purple hull type to be exact). This year I've not canned anything but I have froze and preserved alot. Yesterday it was a 6 point Buck and a Buck with an uni-antler (he has been hanging around here for a few years now), mud pies, kids covered in mud and a beautiful young lady just beginning her life out of high school. Earlier in the week it was a bowl of beautiful green apples a neighbor shared with us, nature and a sweet newborn baby. I may not preserve or freeze in the same manner my fore family did but my creation is just as important.
It seems that we sometimes forget what is truly important in life. A photograph can remind us of just how special we are to each other, how special we are to God and his undying love for us. I long to preserve this beautiful world God created, the twinkle in a sweet baby's eyes, freezing the long look shared between two people in love, life as it happens everyday.
In my own way, I am carrying on in the footsteps of my fore family. I just choose to preserve and freeze moments in time instead of fruits and vegetables. There is no shelf-life on my products, they are meant to be enjoyed for generations to come. My equipment may not be as simple as a pot of boiling water, tongs, and Mason jars but the product is just as sweet and made with just as much love.
